A Preliminary Study of a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Program for Competitive Anxiety in Junior Athletes

The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the preliminary effectiveness a cognitive behavioral therapy program address competitive anxiety among junior athletes. This for in athletes developed based on disorder children adolescents (Ishikawa, 2013). goal not eliminate competition itself, but make athletesʼ interpretation cognition more flexible. A group seven players (four males three females) from private tennis club were treated by clinical psychologist once week total four sessions. shown increase their psychological performance selfefficacy post-intervention at follow-up compared pre-intervention. Interpretation positive self-statements showed preintervention. Finally, future effective practice is discussed.
